From AGI: “Armando Milani has organised a wonderful collective exhibition in Rotonda della Besana in Milan, Italy, based on the word ‘ubuntu’ – a Southern African word that has its roots in humanist African philosophy – which embodies the concept of humanity and oneness. Ubuntu: I am because we are. Ubuntu was often used by Nelson Mandela in his speeches and is widely understood as meaning respect, dialogue, tolerance and humanity. The collection of posters denounce oppression and present messages that suggest possible solutions in defense of human rights. An itinerant exhibition and a possible book would include collected posters from great international designers, from universities students and from school children, all asked to interpret the meaning of Ubuntu. Different ages, different cultures, one dream: Ubuntu from everyone to everyone. The exhibition at the Rotonda della Besana in Milan will include posters from 50 designers (including AGI members such as Mauro Bubbico and Javier Jaén), 50 students and 50 children and will take place in the first week of October.”
This is my poster. Within the DNA double helix, Ubuntu is written by a colour sequence in Morse code. It means sharing humanity through a signal everybody understands: life.
[ Dalla pagina dell’AGI: Armando Milani ha organizzato una splendida mostra collettiva alla Rotonda della Besana, a Milano, dal titolo Ubuntu – una parola sudafricana che ha la sua origine nella filosofia umanista africana – che incorpora il concetto di umanità e di individualità. Ubuntu: Io sono perchè noi siamo. Ubuntu è stata spesso usata da Nelson Mandela nei suoi discorsi ed è diffusamente interpretata nel suo significato di rispetto, dialogo, tolleranza e umanità. La collezione di poster denuncia l’oppressione e suggerisce possibili soluzioni in difesa dei diritti umani. I lavori in mostra sono la risposta di esseri umani di ogni età e ogni cultura: 50 designer (alcuni di essi fra i migliori al mondo), 50 studenti e 50 bambini. Ubuntu: da parte di tutti, verso chiunque.
Questo è il mio poster. All’interno della doppia elica del DNA, Ubuntu è scritto da una sequenza colorata composta in codice Morse. Significa condividere l’umanità attraverso un segnale che tutti comprendono: la vita. ]
