I recently designed the identity for a new winemaker, Tenute Fois. I already knew the Fois family, which in Alghero produces one of the most celebrated olive oils of Sardinia, under the brand name Accademia Olearia, which I also designed together with Roberto Boassa some years ago. Now Fois embark on the road of wine with a Vermentino, Chlamys, baptized after the name of a shell very common along the Mediterranean shores. I designed the twin circular labels first, and it seemed to be a strong sign of identity. To take the two dots as “the” brand came as a natural consequence. Embossing each ray of the shell enhances the tactile impression and makes it coherent with the bottom of the bottle.

pif, posto ispezione frontaliero / porto di cagliari
My friend, architect Olindo Merone, has recently designed the building of the Border Inspection Post Terminal at the Port of Cagliari. He invented a modular precast concrete panels that mimics the proportions of the containers. The grooves of the panels, oriented in the two perpendicular way, react differently to sunlight. Olindo asked me to imagine the PIF written on the facade. I counted the forms of precast concrete and found that they were exactly those needed to compose the acronym PIF. By choosing two colors the play of light and shadows invents the other two. The visual effect is as many containers were stacked in a magical way. Some of them seem to be suspended in the air.
hackit+, ethical hacking
Hackit+ is a revolutionary online training course designed for everyone who wants to understand the basics of ethical hacking. Hackit+ is designed with simplicity and clarity in mind, bringing order to complexity. This training course uses concepts to explain complex systems and actions putting a very high value on simplicity. I designed the logo for Asili&Boassa. It shows a mocking skull, a widely recognizable symbol of the hacking world. The H is represented as a mouth while the + is easily discovered in the negative space between the mouth and the eyes.

facoltà di architettura università di cagliari
One of the first act of the new born Faculty of Architecture, Cagliari University, in 2005, was to create the corporate identity. Logo, stationary, a number of other communication tools were inspired by the shape of the nuraghic village – the most ancient and singular expression of Sardinian architecture, since 2500 b.C. – together with the Cagliari capital C. Some days ago, a collegue of mine show me a work by Paul Rand I didn’t know, the Columbus Indiana Visitor Center. What a shock, but what a good shock…
la genovese gomme
La Genovese gomme is a leading firm in the reconstruction of rubber tires. The curves and thickness of the bold, strong logo, designed by LGg’s owner and president, Ing. Adriano Balduzzi, during the 1970s, were slightly updated. Pictured here are two vans with the old and the new version of the logo.
cagliari city logo
Cagliari City Administration has got its logo: a red stripe that stylizes the Sella del Diavolo (The Devil’s Saddle), the shape-characterized Cape which plunges into the Cagliari Gulf. The simple profile of the Cape also designs a lip (the sensual face of Cagliari’s lifestyle), an arabic or medieval script (its history), the same shape of the Gulf of Cagliari (also known as Golfo degli Angeli, the Angels’ Gulf) as seen from a satellite, and finally the flight of a seagull, a strong symbol for a free, easy, beautiful mediterranean city. I designed this logo for Didaxa advertising agency.
master bioinformatica
The new logo for the 2nd level Master in Bioinformatics at Cagliari University plays with the end of the word Bioinformatica, the letters CA, (which identify the place where it is held), together with all the I and O inside the same name, seen as the 1 and 0 of the binary system. I know, I’ve already used this trick. But it works, so why not?
